We vow to MIGHTY HARAJUKU!!(私たちは力強い原宿を誓います!)
I think everybody wondered “Is there possibly anything I can do?” after seeing what happened after the Great East Japan earthquake on March 11th, 2011. Harajuku is a internationally known town that sends out new cultures, fashion in particular. If Harajuku loses its power, not only Tokyo, but Japan’s unique appeal will be reduced to half of what it originally was… Then, wouldn’t sending something out of Harajuku with a lot of will bring a strong influence? The MIGHTY HARAJUKU PROJECT (which literally is titled after its aim; to create a “mighty” Harajuku) was created by Sebastian Masuda, by him calling out to the local people of Harajuku. We have been transmitting pictures of Harajuku to the world for a month since the earthquake. Now we have taken the next step, and created a symbol for the project; the MIGHTY HARAJUKU button. People working in Harajuku will wear this button, and photographs of them will be snapped and sent out to the world along with information on what is going on in Harajuku as of now. We believe that the moment we see this button being worn everywhere in Harajuku , no matter how small the steps may be, will lead to the rebuilding of the town. We vow to MIGHTY HARAJUKU! We are going to send out Japan’s proud culture, the energetic Harajuku in different forms, as a new project starting from Harajuku!
